North Korea fired approximately 10 short-range ballistic missiles toward the sea off its eastern coast, marking a sharp escalation in testing activity. The projectiles were detected by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff originating from the eastern coastal area around Wonsan during the early afternoon. Japan’s Defense Ministry indicated that the missiles appeared to have landed outside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone, while maritime authorities issued local warnings. The provocative launch follows recent threats by Pyongyang to resume frontline propaganda broadcasts and deploy new tactical hardware along the heavily armed inter-Korean border. South Korea’s military announced it has amplified its monitoring and surveillance posture while tightly sharing telemetry and intelligence with U.S. and Japanese allies.
