Commercial satellite imagery reviewed by Reuters revealed that light attack aircraft and military support vehicles have arrived at a newly established China-Laos joint training facility. The photos, captured on September 30 by provider Vantor, show approximately eight K-8 light attack jets and over two dozen support vehicles positioned along a runway undergoing active construction in Ban Keun, north of Vientiane. The deployment comes just days after the Chinese defense ministry formally announced the creation of the facility, marking another step in Beijing’s expanding military footprint in mainland Southeast Asia. Regional security analysts are closely monitoring the site—historically a wartime CIA-linked airfield—as a potential strategic foothold. While some experts view the development as a targeted opportunity rather than a fully fledged combat base, it underscores Beijing’s growing regional defense reach.
