Turkey’s parliament is scheduled to vote on ratifying the strategic mutual defense pact with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, following approval by its foreign affairs committee. The agreement formally known as the Mecca Defence Alliance stipulates that an external armed attack against any member state will be treated as an attack against all three parties. The acceleration toward full ratification comes as Saudi Arabia faces mounting missile and drone assaults from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement amid broader regional conflicts. While Turkish leadership has clarified that the treaty is strictly defensive and will not involve offensive ground combat against the Houthis, Ankara is expected to deploy technical advisers, air defense systems, and military logistics personnel under separate mandates. The trilateral pact binds NATO’s second-largest military with two major regional powers, establishing joint frameworks for defense industry integration, intelligence sharing, and tactical interoperability.
