153 Million Driver License Images Offered on Dark Web

Massive license trove linked to identity verification breach.

A dark web service called Nexus began offering digital scans of more than 153 million U.S. and Canadian driver’s licenses, along with other identification documents. The operator claimed the data came from an active breach at an identity verification firm, and independent checks pointed to IDScan.net as the likely source. Nexus briefly went offline after the exposure, and the FBI launched an investigation because some stolen licenses reportedly belonged to its agents. Security experts urged organizations to strengthen identity‑data controls and advised individuals to avoid sharing license copies unless absolutely necessary.
