‘Bootkitty’ First Bootloader to Take Aim at Linux

Researchers have developed the first malware capable of infecting the boot process of Linux systems.

Students in South Korea have developed the first malware capable of infecting the boot process of Linux systems. Other researchers and analyst have said that “Bootkitty” is more of a proof of concept than an active threat, but it shows how dangerous bootkit attacks can be. “Bootkitty” takes advantage of several known exploits and vulnerabilities that are currently found on only a small number of Linux based systems.
