The US Department of Justice (DoJ) accuses US company Aventura Technologies of lying about the origin of millions of dollars in Chinese surveillance and other security equipment sold by the firm to the US military and other organizations. Prosecutors claim that the equipment that was sold “as purportedly US-made has been installed on dozens of Army, Navy and Air Force bases, Department of Energy facilities and, among other places, on Navy aircraft carriers.” This raises “a grave concern” in terms of cyber security, according to US Attorney Richard Donoghue.

The indictment stops short of accusing the Chinese government of involvement in the scheme, but Donoghue alleged that “individuals in China were well aware of what was going on.”
