Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange company, has disclosed a data leak after hackers broke into its systems. The cyber actors targeted Coinbase’s overseas customer support agents, offering them cash in exchange for copying data over. The attackers then used this list of customers and pretended to be Coinbase to trick them into turning over their cryptocurrency assets. Around 1% of the company’s monthly users are impacted by the incident. The hackers also attempted to extort Coinbase for $20 million, but were unsuccessful.
