University Security Lapses Under Investigation
Columbia University confirmed a cyberattack that caused an IT outage on June 24 and led to the theft of data affecting 868,969 individuals. An August 5 update revealed that hackers accessed admission, enrollment, and financial aid records, as well as employee information. The university is notifying affected individuals and offering two years of credit monitoring, while the investigation into the May 16 breach continues.
