Crypto hackers hide stolen funds faster – research

Crypto hack losses surpass 2024; laundering in seconds

Eight months into 2025, total losses from crypto hacks have already surpassed last year’s total. Global Ledger reports attackers launder stolen funds with unprecedented speed; fund movements occurred in as little as four seconds, one case was fully cleaned in 2 minutes 57 seconds, and nearly a third of stolen assets vanish within 24 hours. Only 4.6% of stolen assets were recovered in the first half of the year, despite 84% of incidents being reported on the day they occur. Even the fastest alerting systems take around five minutes to trigger, giving exchanges just a 10–15-minute window to freeze transfers before funds slip beyond reach.
