Easily Exploitable ‘Pack2TheRoot’ Linux Vulnerability Leads to Root Access

An exploit in Linux allows attackers to corrupt running transactions and esclatate prvileges.

Pack2TheRoot, is a high‑severity TOCTOU race condition in PackageKit that lets unprivileged users install arbitrary packages with root privileges. The flaw stems from improperly handled transaction flags, allowing attackers to corrupt running transactions and escalate privileges. Many major Linux distributions including Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Rocky Linux are confirmed vulnerable, and the issue may have existed for over a decade.
