Exclusive Investigation Reveals Over 1.5 Million Canadian Crime Stoppers Tips Compromised in Massive Data Breach

An exclusive investigation by CBC News has revealed that more than 1.5 million tips submitted to Canadian Crime Stoppers programs over the past 25 years were leaked in a major data breach. Cybersecurity experts and internal analysis indicate that approximately half of the compromised tips contained personally identifiable information, including names, phone numbers, and addresses. The massive database was originally stolen by a hacktivist collective known as Internet Yiff Machine from third-party vendor P3 Global Intel, which manages the organization’s tip platform. Affected tipsters and independent security professionals expressed profound shock and concern over potential retaliation, privacy violations, and the indefinite retention of sensitive records. Following the revelations, the RCMP and cybersecurity authorities have raised serious alarms regarding risks to public safety, witness protection, and active law enforcement investigations.
