Farmers Insurance breach impacts over 1 million customers

Insurance giant reports vendor breach affecting million-plus customers

Farmers Insurance is notifying over 1.1 million customers that their personal information was exposed in a May cyberattack targeting a third-party vendor’s database. The breach compromised names, addresses, birth dates, driver’s license numbers, and partial Social Security numbers for affected customers. Farmers detected the unauthorized access on July 24th and said the vendor’s monitoring tools quickly contained the incident by blocking the attacker. The company is providing two years of free identity monitoring services to impacted customers, marking another major insurance breach following Allianz Life’s similar vendor-related incident affecting 1.1 million customers last month.
