Funding uncertainty may spell the end of MITRE’s CVE program 

MITRE, the organization running the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) program, is risking losing the U.S. federal funding behind the effort this week. On Wednesday, the current funding pathway for MITRE to run the program will expire. In a leaked email, MITRE VP said that a break in CVE service would deteriorate national vulnerability databases, incident response operations, and critical infrastructure. However, other organizations are prepared to step up the program if needed. The CVE Board has also established a CVE Foundation, transitioning the program to a non-profit.
