Ghost Tap: Hackers Exploiting NFCGate to Steal Funds via Mobile Payments

Attackers are exploiting a new technique which leverages near-field communication (NFC) to access victim’s funds. The technique is called “Ghost Tap.” It allows hackers to get money from stolen credit cards which are connected to mobile payment services. These cybercriminals can transmit payment information from these services around the globe in just seconds. Without physical access to the card or phone, they can still make payments from the victim’s account. In the attacks, users are tricked into downloading a mobile banking malware. The hackers capture payment details, and then add the card to a mobile payment service using NFCGate. This technique is very difficult to detect and is able to bypass anti-fraud mechanisms.
