Finastra, a global financial technology giant, has suffered from a major data breach which is impacting its internal file transfer system. The company is based out of London and handles banking and wire transfers for over 8,100 financial institutions. The breach was detected on November 7. Hackers were able to access Finastra’s Secure File Transfer Platform (SFTP) with stolen credentials. A cybercriminal known as “abyss0” was behind the attack originally asking for $20,000 in ransom. However, the hacker wiped its presence from the internet after halving the ransom price. In the breach, around 400 gigabytes of compressed information were compromised. The incident is still under investigation, but it is believed that confidential internal documents and sensitive client data were accessed.
