Hackers Target Perplexity Comet Browser Users

Hackers have begun targeting users of Perplexity Comet Browser.

Threat actors launched a coordinated campaign to exploit the launch of Comet, a Chromium-based browser integrated with Perplexity’s AI assistant, by creating fraudulent domains and apps. These fake sites used typo-squatting and brand impersonation to distribute malicious executables, with over 40 suspicious domains identified. BforeAI also found fake Comet apps on Google Play and the iOS App Store, prompting warnings from Perplexity’s CEO. The campaign’s timing and tactics suggest cybercriminals are actively monitoring emerging tech trends to exploit user trust and spread malware.
