Huawei Represents Massive Supply Chain Risk: Report

New research by Recorded Future describes Huawei as a massive security threat to US organizations because the widespread use of Huawei products provides the firm with access to enormous amounts of data on individual users, companies, and governments. All of that data may be compromised by the Chinese government as the result of national security laws that Huawei is subjected to.

While Priscilla Moriuchi of Recorded Future believes that “Huawei, as a Chinese company, is not inherently malign,” she is concerned that “the people that compose Huawei will at some point likely be forced into making decisions that could compromise the integrity or corporate ambitions of their customers.”

Last month, US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency over telecom threats, thereby enabling the US government to extend its ban on Huawei technology to the private sector. The US considers Huawei products to be a security threat, because the firm may provide the Chinese government with access to its data and systems. Both Huawei and the Chinese government have consistently denied allegations of cyber espionage.
