As AT&T continues looking into Labor Day’s Dallas-area fiber outages, an Iranian hacker group has claimed credit for the service disruptions. But the company says evidence points to cable theft. In a Tuesday message posted to Telegram by APT IRAN, the group says they “attacked telecommunications and other critical infrastructure” in Texas, including disrupting the AT&T service in four cities. The message says the group will continue to intensify its “attacks” until Friday, Sept. 11. AT&T has no evidence to support the hacker group’s claims, according to a Wednesday company statement.Employees have been investigating the source of Monday’s outage, and the initial assessment indicates it was caused by an attempted cable theft.
