Massive Cyberattack Wipes Cloud Infrastructure at Russian Hosting Provider Beget

Major Russian hosting provider Beget suffered a devastating cyberattack overnight, causing network traffic to plummet and disrupting systems across multiple architectural layers. The company confirmed that its cloud infrastructure including virtual private servers (VPS), S3 storage, and Kubernetes environments suffered total data loss alongside wiped network configurations and IP settings. While live disk-image backups and cloud instances were heavily impacted, Beget reported that file-level backups for most virtual hosting resources and shared environments remained preserved. Citing circumstances akin to force majeure under civil law, Beget scrambled emergency engineering teams to restore core name servers, email functionality, and unmanaged dedicated environments. The outage impacted a substantial footprint of active Russian web infrastructure across .ru, .рф, and .su domains, leaving hundreds of thousands of client websites facing persistent connectivity errors and lengthy restoration queues.
