Mirai botnet spinoffs are behind a recent wave of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks across the globe. One of the spinoffs is exploiting Internet of Things (IoT) device vulnerabilities to establish botnet networks. Another is targeting North American, European, and Asian organizations with DDoS attacks. These campaigns demonstrate Mirai’s ongoing reach. The botnet has spawned variants since 2016 when its source code was leaked.
