Pentagon reveals cyber breach of travel records

The Pentagon announced a breach of its DoD travel records, accessed through a compromised commercial vendor, that compromised personal information, including credit card information, of both military members and civilians. The breach impacted up to 30,000 employees and occurred months ago, although it was only just discovered on October 4th. An investigation has been opened to further examine its scope, as well as to identify the attackers. The identity of the vendor is not being released as the Pentagon works to ensure that vulnerabilities are removed. Recent audits have named cyber vulnerabilities as one of the greatest risks facing most agencies, which see thousands of probes and attacks every day.
