An insider-led hack has drained over 540 million reais from PIX.
Police in São Paulo arrested C&M employee João Roque for allegedly selling his IT credentials to hackers who diverted more than 540 million reais from the Central Bank’s PIX instant-payment system in one night. Authorities say the breach targeted a single financial institution, at least four other suspects were involved, and roughly 270 million reais have since been frozen. Brazil’s Central Bank suspended part of C&M’s operations, and the company attributes the incident to social engineering rather than technical flaws.
