Quebec schools have used an app with known security flaws which leaked children’s information.
The HopHop app, used by hundreds of Quebec schools and daycares to coordinate child pickups, was found to be leaking sensitive personal data including names, photos, and school information of children and parents. The app was not approved by the Quebec Ministry of Education, and the government had known about the vulnerability for two weeks before taking action. A cybersecurity expert and concerned parent discovered the flaw, revealing that anyone could impersonate a parent and potentially pick up a child.
