The Australian Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation is an annual award presented by the Australian Government as part of the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science. It recognizes individuals who have transformed scientific research into innovative products or solutions that have major impact.

For 2025, the prize was awarded to Dr. Vikram Sharma, Founder and CEO of Quintessence Labs. Dr. Sharma was honored for translating deep quantum science research into world-leading cybersecurity solutions. The products developed by Quintessence Labs are used by major organizations, government agencies, global defense contractors, and critical infrastructure providers worldwide to protect sensitive information.

The award highlights significant contributions not only to technology and industry, but also to Australia’s quantum industry and national cyber security strategies. Quintessence Labs employs quantum scientists, electronics specialists, and software engineers, with ambitious plans for growth, demonstrating the broader impact of this innovation within both Australia and the global technology sector.

Dr Sharma is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Quintessence  Labs. The prize recognises his work turning deep quantum science research into world-leading cyber security solutions used by companies around the world to protect sensitive information. 

Major organisations across Australia, North America, Europe and Asia use Quintessence Labs’ products. Customers include Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, global defence contractors and critical infrastructure providers. 

The company employs world-leading quantum scientists, electronics specialists and software engineers, and plans to grow to around 150 people within the next 2 years. 

Dr Sharma’s work is shaping Australia’s quantum industry and contributing to national cyber security strategies.
