In 2024, Cloudflare observed a large increase in distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. The company blocked the largest ever observed DDoS attack during the last three months of 2024. The attack was a 5.6 terabit per second (Tbps) UDP DDoS assault, compared to Cloudflare’s previous record of 3.8 Tbps. This DDoS attack was launched by a Mirai-variant botnet against an Eastern Asian internet service provider.
