Researchers Expose WHILL Wheelchair Safety Risks via Remote Hacking

Researchers expose unsafe remote control flaw in wheelchairs.

CISA warned that WHILL’s Model C2 and Model F wheelchairs contain a critical Bluetooth flaw that lets anyone in range take control without authentication. QED Secure Solutions researchers discovered the issue during a 2025 hackathon and showed they could steer the chairs, disable safety limits, and even automate attacks on nearby devices. WHILL has issued a patch, though researchers say they have not been able to confirm whether it fully fixes the problem. The findings raise concerns about weak security protections in medical mobility devices that already hold FDA clearance.
