Rhysida ransomware hits Cookeville Regional Medical Center
On July 13, Cookeville Regional Medical Center detected a network incident that disrupted its systems, and on August 2 the Rhysida ransomware gang leaked samples of medical records and demanded 10 BTC to avoid auctioning the rest. CRMC’s security team, aided by external experts and federal authorities, has worked nonstop to restore services, letting care continue despite scheduling slowdowns and test delays. Serving 250,000 patients across 14 counties with over 2,500 staff, the hospital will notify anyone whose data was compromised—underscoring the urgent need for stronger healthcare cybersecurity.
