Times Mobility, the operator of the popular Japanese car-sharing service Times Car Rental, announced a major data breach impacting approximately 6.6 million accounts. The company discovered the unauthorized access by a third party and successfully blocked the threat actor’s network route by the following morning. The breach compromised roughly 1.6 million personal verification documents, including images of driver’s licenses, utility bills, and student IDs. Fortunately, the operator confirmed that customer credit card and financial payment information was not accessed or compromised. Times Mobility is currently working to secure the affected systems and guide users through protecting their exposed personal information.
