Trump administration proposes cutting $491M from CISA budget 

President Trump’s fiscal year 2026 budget proposal slashes $491 million from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s budget. This is nearly a 17% reduction to the agency’s budget, which is approximately $3 billion. While the specific itemized cuts were not detailed, the budget cuts would broadly target disinformation and misinformation programs and offices, as well as duplicative programs. However, CISA does not have any offices which are specifically dedicated to fighting misinformation and disinformation. The administration may be targeting election security offices.
