The Black Lotus Labs team and the U.S. Department of Justice have taken down two proxy services powered by a botnet. The DoJ worked with police in the Netherlands and Thailand to take down the proxy services, which were named Anyproxy and 5socks. Four individuals have also been charged for their alleged role in operating the services, three of which are Russian nationals and one of which is a Kazakhstani national. The proxy services were powered by a botnet made up of thousands of hacked devices which were controlled through known vulnerabilities.
