US Seeks Forfeiture of $7.74M in Cryptocurrency Tied to North Korean IT Workers

The Justice Department seeks to seize $7.74M in North Korean-linked digital assets.

The funds, representing cryptocurrency, NFTs, and other digital assets, were frozen in connection with fake IT worker schemes. Using false identities, North Korean nationals would obtain employment at tech companies in the US and abroad, routing received payments to the country through a laundering network. The United States estimated that North Korean IT workers had infiltrated hundreds of companies across the country, netting $88 million over six years.
