A Liberian‑flagged vessel undergoing repairs at Qingdao’s Beihai Shipbuilding yard caught fire, leaving 25 dead and several injured after 42 people were aboard. The blaze burned for more than three hours as workers attempted to extinguish it before emergency crews intervened. Xi Jinping ordered urgent rescue efforts and called for stricter safety measures, while Premier Li Qiang urged authorities to locate anyone still trapped. The shipyard, part of China’s state shipbuilding conglomerate, is a major repair and construction hub on the country’s northeastern coast.
