Irish missionary, child abducted in Haiti orphanage raid

Eight people, including Irish missionary Gena Heraty and a three-year-old child, went missing after gunmen stormed the Saint-Hélène orphanage in Kenscoff. Authorities scrambled to relocate over 240 children and staff from the charity-run facility now controlled by the Viv Ansanm gang federation. Heraty, who has served in Haiti since 1993 and survived a 2013 attack, is the latest high-profile missionary to be kidnapped. The violence has forced farmers like Sala Désire to flee their homes, while Ireland’s deputy prime minister, Simon Harris, called for the hostages’ immediate release.
