Angola bids for majority stake in De Beers, source says

Angola has placed a bid for a majority stake in De Beers.

Angola’s state-owned diamond company Endiama has submitted a formal bid to acquire Anglo American’s 85% stake in De Beers, challenging other suitors including Botswana and former De Beers executives. This marks a shift from Angola’s earlier interest in only a minority stake. The move comes after Angola surpassed Botswana as Africa’s top diamond producer by value for the first time in two decades. Anglo American is evaluating offers as part of a broader restructuring, with De Beers valued at around $5 billion.
