Since Monday, at least 56 have been killed in Mozambique as a result of clashes in the country. Protests arose with unrest over the recent presidential election, which demonstrators claim the governing party rigged. Over 1,530 prisoners escaped from Maputo Central Prison on Wednesday, and 33 prisoners were killed in confrontations with guards trying to prevent the jailbreak. Earlier this week, the nation’s top court upheld the election of Daniel Chapo, the candidate of the governing party, which escalated tensions in the country.
