Attack at a police station in Colombia by FARC dissidents kills 1, injures 4

FARC dissidents escalate violence against authorities.

Dissidents of the defunct Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia attacked a police station in the Cauca department on Sunday, killing one officer and wounding four people in apparent retaliation for government operations against criminal groups. The attackers operate under Néstor Gregorio Vera, known as Iván Mordisco, one of Colombia’s most wanted individuals, whose factions withdrew from peace talks with President Gustavo Petro’s government. Army troops deployed to restore order after the “terrorist actions,” while officials reported the armed groups used residents as human shields. Videos shared by local press captured gunfire and grenade attacks on the station, with a similar assault occurring in the same region in late August.
