JNIM causes unrest and heightens political tensions.
An assault on the Dargo military base by suspected Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin militants left about 50 soldiers dead, local sources said. Approximately 100 attackers participated in the operation, then burned and looted the facility after the killings. The military government has not publicly acknowledged the incident, despite JNIM’s record of hundreds of civilian and military deaths across West Africa. This surge in armed-group violence has eroded national security and fueled political instability and back-to-back coups under the leader Ibrahim Traoré.
