Chinese ships fired water cannons and collided with a Philippine vessel

Chinese coast guard ships used water cannons and rammed a Philippine fisheries vessel anchored near Thitu Island, causing minor damage but no injuries. Two other Philippine vessels were also hit with water cannons during the confrontation, which occurred about 1.6 nautical miles from the Philippine-occupied island. China claimed the vessels had illegally entered its waters near Sandy Cay and ignored warnings, while Philippine officials vowed they would not be intimidated or surrender territory. The U.S. condemned China’s actions and praised Filipino personnel for their valor.
