Curfew declared in Madagascar capital after violent protests

A curfew has been declared after protests in Madagascar.

Authorities in Madagascar imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the capital Antananarivo following violent protests over power outages and water shortages. Thousands of mostly young demonstrators defied a police ban and clashed with security forces. Looting and vandalism occurred, including the burning of a shopping mall and attacks on lawmakers’ homes.
