Ethiopia Expels Sudanese Diplomats Amid Heightened Tensions Over Alleged RSF Support

The Ethiopian government ordered six Sudanese diplomatic and consular officials to depart the country within 48 hours. Alongside the expulsions, Addis Ababa ordered the immediate closure of Sudan’s consulate located in the western border city of Assosa. The sharp diplomatic fallout follows formal complaints lodged by Sudan at the UN and African Union alleging that dozens of explosive drone attacks launched from Ethiopian territory targeted Sudanese civilians and infrastructure. Ethiopian authorities have firmly denied supporting Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), instead accusing Khartoum of backing rebel factions active within Ethiopia. The sudden diplomatic rupture dramatically escalates tensions between the two neighboring states, threatening to further complicate efforts to contain overlapping civil conflicts.
