The UN Secretary General has proposed that the UN assume responsibility for funding an on-going mission in Haiti.

At a meeting of Caribbean leaders, the UN Secretary General has proposed that the UN assume responsibility for funding an on-going multination policing mission in Haiti. The funds would come from an existing trust fund. The proposal would have to be approved by the Security Council. Haiti has reiterated that it believes a full peace keeping mission is needed to restore order.
