Iran restores access to WhatsApp and Google Play after they were banned amid protests

Iran’s government has restored access to WhatsApp and Google Play.

Iran’s Telecommunications Minister has announced that WhastsApp and Google Play access has been restored. The decision was made by the Supreme Council of Cyber Space in a meeting attended by reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Telecommunication Minister’s announcement indicated that additional bans could be lifted. WhatsApp and Google Play had been banned following mass protests in 2022.
