Israel has continued its heavy bombing around Beirut this weekend while its ground troops targeted southern Lebanon. These actions signal a widening offensive, which could further complicate efforts to establish a cease-fire. Iran has recently signaled that it would support such a cease-fire, and the Biden administration is renewing its push for an agreement. Israel is demanding that as part of a truce, Hezbollah would need to withdraw from nearby the Israel-Lebanon border. There is no public indication that Hezbollah would be willing to concede to such demands.
