Israel’s parliament has approved parts of a proposed judicial overhaul.

Israel’s parliament has approved a bill which changes how individuals are appointed to the Supreme Court. The bill shifts the balance of power on the judicial selection committee towards political appointees. Critics say the law will undermine the indepedence of the judicial branch and weaken democratic norms. Legal challenges against the law have already been filed.
