Evacuations are underway and reinforcements have been drawn from across the country.

Fires broke out Sunday near the town of Chios and quickly grew due to strong winds, leading to evacuations in a dozen areas and a large response from firefighters and aircraft. Additional personnel and equipment were sent from Athens and Thessaloniki to assist with containment efforts. An arson investigation is underway as authorities note that wildfires have become more frequent and intense in recent years.
