Myanmar ends state of emergency and its military leader switches roles to prepare for the vote

Myanmar has ended its state of emergency.

The Myanmar military government has announced the end of the state of emergency and that elections will be held in December. The current military ruler has also announced that he will be stepping down from several positions. It is not yet clear when exactly when elections will be held or how they will be conducted in areas controlled by rebel groups.
