North Korean troops have officially entered Russia’s war against Ukraine. They fought against Ukrainian forces currently occupying Russia’s Kursk region in a small-scale engagement. The fight was likely an attempt to look for weaknesses in the Ukrainian lines. While it is unclear when exactly the fighting occurred, North Korean troops were killed in the confrontation. These troops are part of the 10,000 soldiers sent by Kim Jong-un to assist Russian forces. It is not yet clear if Putin promised Kim anything in exchange for the troops. There are concerns that Russia may provide North Korea significant military assistance, increasing danger to North Korea’s neighbors.
