Pakistan says it killed 31 militants in the northwest as insurgents offer talks

Pakistani security forces killed 31 insurgents in overnight raids across two districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province near the Afghan border. The Pakistani Taliban simultaneously offered direct talks with the government to address “root causes” of the two-decade conflict, though authorities have not responded to the proposal. The raids follow recent operations that killed 45 Taliban fighters while claiming 19 Pakistani soldiers’ lives amid a surge in militant attacks. Pakistan last held negotiations with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in 2022, resulting in a ceasefire that eventually collapsed.
