Police tear gas activists protesting the death in police custody of a Kenyan blogger

Nairobi police tear-gassed activists during a protest against the death of a blogger in police custody.

Albert Ojwang was found dead while in custody at the Central Police Station, with police attributing his death to hitting his head against the cell wall. Ojwang’s death comes almost a year after several figures were killed and abducted by Kenyan police during the finance bill protests in 2024. Ojwang’s death sparked outrage online, and Amnesty Kenya said in a statement that Ojwang’s arrest raises serious questions.
