Russia has hosted a Taliban delegation in Moscow.

Peace talks in Moscow between the Taliban and other Afghan factions have reportedly made progress. Russia is positioning itself as a mediator in Afghanistan, seeking influence amid the long-standing U.S. presence in the region. While some Afghan leaders, like Ata Mohammad Noor, acknowledged progress, they expressed disappointment over unmet expectations, particularly regarding a cease-fire. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated support for the full withdrawal of foreign troops and comprehensive peace talks.
